Robotech Expeditionary Force

Pioneer Mission, commonly referred to as Operation Pioneer, was a vast interstellar operation conducted by the Robotech Expeditionary Force (REF) to explore the far reaches of deep space for the purposes of colonization, and to locate the homeworld of the Robotech Masters. It would be the embodiment of the original initiative established by Henry Gloval. Space Station Liberty was one of several deep space hubs that maintained contact with Earth via Moon Base Luna, keeping them updated with the status of the mission. In 2022, the flagship, Super Dimension Fortress-3 Pioneer, was launched from Earth to join the rest of the fleet of the Pioneer Expedition, commanded by Admiral Lisa Hayes. A similar, but more heavily militarized version of the Pioneer Mission was known as the Expeditionary Mission.

The Search BeginsEdit

Operation Pioneer informally began during the Reconstruction Era, when the Gloval Initiative was drafted and later approved by the United Earth Government. Reconnaissance vessels were sent out by the Robotech Defense Force beyond the solar system, the first of which were the Tokugawa-class Battleship, Recon-1 (which was set to launch in 2014), along with various classes of retrofitted Zentraedi cruisers. The capture of the Robotech Factory Satellite in middle of 2013 proved to be a massive boon for the early expeditionary forces, despite its state of disrepair. Meanwhile on Earth, the Super Dimension Fortress-2 Megalord (SDF-2) was currently being fast-tracked into production, and many more vessels were leaving the planet to to search for the homeworld Robotech Masters. However, an attack by renegade Zentraedi forces on New Macross City led to the tragic loss of several key personnel, including the operation's flagship, the SDF-2 and the Super Dimension Fortress-1 Macross (SDF-1).

A New AgeEdit

Despite this major setback, the mission continued. Slowly, Earth's survivors began rebuilding once again. Lisa Hayes was appointed as Admiral, and had operation command of the mission. Focus shifted on establishing more self-sustaining deep space colonies, and building defensive and supply fleets to support them. It was later decided that the Robotech Factory Satellite would be split into several pods and converted into standalone space stations. The largest of these was Space Station Liberty, a facility that would serve as the link between Earth and the forces in deep space. Eventually, the Super Dimension Fortress-3 Pioneer was completed, commanded by Admiral Lisa Hayes. This signaled a new age for humanity, as the population in deep space swelled and grew independent from Earth.

Operation Pioneer officially ended some time after the end of the Second Robotech War.
