Robotech Expeditionary Force

Space Station Liberty, Earth's only link to the Robotech Defenders who have gone out into the cosmos searching for answers to the puzzling riddle of protoculture.

Space Station Liberty, otherwise known as the Liberty Base, was a massive Robotech space station that served as a strategic orbital observation outpost, and the main link between the United Earth Forces and the Robotech Expeditionary Forces in deep space. It was originally constructed after  It was referenced in the series Robotech: The Masters.

With the acquisition of the Robotech Factory Satellite in the middle of 2013, the United Earth Forces learned quite early that facility had been significantly damaged to be fully repaired to its original state. By the start of the build up to the Pioneer Mission, the United Earth Government proposed removing each of the pods of Robotech Factory Satellite and converting them into standalone stations with varying functions including mobile repair, manufacturing and logistics. The first, and largest sections to be removed and refurbished was Space Station Liberty. It took some time before the remaining three joined their sister: Space Station Freedom, Independence and Glory. Space Station Liberty was located somewhere outside the solar system, to service any United Earth Forces’ fleets that happened to be operating in the area. The station also kept Earth apprised of the current status of the Pioneer Mission, via the military communication outpost at Moon Base Luna. A patrol unit, Liberty Observer Group, was tasked with responding to any threat that were to befall the Space Station, as well as warn Earth of any impending alien invasion.

Among the many changes made to the structure was the immediate overhaul of all Zentraedi weapon and their fire control systems. In time, newer weapons would eventually replace these suspect armaments. Though not heavily armed for a base of its size, Space Station Liberty nevertheless was a formidable target. This upgrading of weapon systems ultimately proved to be the saving grace for the Space Station during an encounter with the Robotech Masters during the Second Robotech War.

Technology and Combat CharacteristicsEdit

Like the original overhaul of the Super Dimension Fortress-1 Macross (SDF-1), Space Station Liberty's many more alien automated based systems were removed and dispersed around the human-occupied space. To save on costs, the United Earth Government and United Earth Forces rented large portions of the space station to various private companies that were borne out of the Reconstruction Era, including the Proteus Group and Shimada Enterprises. In return for the sheer mountain of material salvaged at the end of the First Robotech War (from the remains of Dolza’s Grand Fleet and stored supplies aboard the Factory Satellite), the various companies that came aboard reduced costs and maintained strict quality control on all vehicles, mecha and warships produced at the behemoth base.

Throughout the Second Robotech War, Space Station Liberty continually broadcasted the distress orders to the Pioneer Mission. This desperate attempt finally paid off somewhat with the arrival of the first wave of reinforcements from deep space prior to the Second Offensive. Liberty Base, as it was designed, became the waystation it had been during the Pioneer Expedition fleet buildup. Though few new ships would roll out from its yards, numerous ships were being repaired and upgraded.

The end of the Second Robotech War and the arrival of the Invid ultimately proved to make Liberty less valuable as a staging area, and emphasis shifted to Moon Base Luna and the Mars Base Orbital Staging Grounds. However, the shipyards once again began production as the Earth Reclamation Forces attempted to drive the Invid from the Earth.
